Srimat Swami Hiranmayanandaji Maharaj, a dedicated monk of charismatic character, was the Founder Secretary of Vidyapith. The indefatigable energy, wide vision and ardent devotion of Hiranmayanandaji Maharaj and the invaluable assistance of his worthy co-workers not only helped Vidyapith develop into one of the most renowned 'Seats of Learning' in the country, but also gave it an All-India character.

Not only the different structures that have come up in Vidyapith bear testimony to the glorious heritage of the Indian Art and Architecture, but they also comprehensively express certain ideas, embodying the rich traditions of India, successfully fused with modem ideas and aspirations, as desired by our great leader Swami Vivekananda.

Besides the beautiful School building, the Temple, the General Office building, the Hospital building, the Museums, the Bank building, the Charitable Dispensary, the Post Office, the Workshop, the Dairy, the Poultry, and the Teachers' Quarters, the Mango groves and Arjuna trees stand as a backdrop, enhancing the beauty and serenity of the activities of the different departments. In this picturesque setting, the Deer Park, the Aviary and the Flower-beds of various shapes and hues have added to its grandeur. All these combined have converted the ambience of Vidyapith into a 'Hermitage' of the ancient India, full of perfect calm and peace, true to the basic ideal of Education, so ardently cherished by Swami Vivekananda.

As mentioned earlier, the central activity of Vidyapith is round a residential school. Nevertheless, it is a school with a difference. It imparts 'man-making' and 'character-building' education, in keeping with the glorious tradition of the ancient 'Gurukul' system, so keenly advocated by Swami Vivekananda. Over all these years, Vidyapith has been trying to achieve a harmonious development of body, mind and spirit of every child, placed under its care, through variegated programmes and projects, inside and outside the campus.
